Privacy Policy
Last updated:
This is the personal website of Yevhen (“I”, “me”). This policy explains what happens to your data when you visit yevhenmakes.com.
The short version: there are no accounts, no ads and no tracking cookies. The only analytics tool is GoatCounter, which counts visits without identifying you.
Who is responsible
I, Yevhen, run yevhenmakes.com and am responsible for the data described on this page. You can reach me at what(a)yevhenmakes.com (replace “(a)” with “@”).
What data is collected
Analytics (GoatCounter)
I use GoatCounter to see how many people visit the site and which pages they read. It’s the only analytics tool on this site. GoatCounter doesn’t set cookies or store anything in your browser, and it doesn’t build a profile of you or follow you across websites.
When a page loads, a small script from GoatCounter sends it:
- the address and title of the page you’re viewing;
- the referrer, meaning the page that linked you here, if your browser shares it;
- your browser’s User-Agent, which tells it your browser and operating system;
- your screen size and preferred language;
- your IP address, which is part of every request made over the internet.
GoatCounter keeps only aggregate statistics, such as how many visits came from a given browser or country on a given day. It derives an approximate location (country or region) from your IP address, but it doesn’t store the IP address itself or the full User-Agent. To avoid counting the same visitor twice, it keeps a random session ID tied to your IP address and User-Agent in memory for up to 8 hours and never writes that link to disk.
According to GoatCounter’s own policy, its data is hosted in the EU and isn’t shared with third parties. For details, see GoatCounter’s privacy policy.
Hosting (Cloudflare)
This site is served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes the technical data needed to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse, such as your IP address, the page you requested and your browser’s User-Agent. Cloudflare isn’t used for analytics on this site. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
Your theme preference
If you pick a light, dark or automatic theme, your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage (under theme-preference) so the site remembers it next time. It stays on your device and is never sent to me. You can remove it by clearing this site’s data in your browser.
If you email me, I receive your email address, your message and anything else you choose to include. I use it only to reply to you. I won’t add you to a mailing list or share your message with anyone, and you can ask me to delete our correspondence at any time.
Cookies
This site doesn’t set any cookies of its own, and GoatCounter doesn’t use cookies at all. In some cases Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie (such as __cf_bm) to tell people apart from automated traffic. It isn’t used for tracking or advertising.
Legal basis
If you’re in the EU, the EEA or the UK, I process the data above on the basis of my legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR): understanding, without identifying anyone, how the site is used; delivering the site and keeping it secure; and replying to messages you send me. Your theme preference is stored only because you chose it.
Sharing and selling
I don’t sell your data, and I don’t share it with anyone for advertising. The only services involved are the two named above: GoatCounter for analytics and Cloudflare for hosting.
Links to other sites
This site links to my other projects and to third-party sites like the App Store and the Chrome Web Store. Their own privacy policies apply when you visit them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to restrict or object to how it’s processed, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Because analytics data is aggregated and can’t be linked back to you, these rights mostly apply to emails you’ve sent me. To make a request, contact me using the address below.
Children
This site isn’t aimed at children, and I don’t knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If I change how data is handled, I’ll update this page and the “Last updated” date at the top.
